Online Improv Course: The Fundamentals of Stupidity – Interview with Britt Pay

Your Online Improv Course: The Fundamentals of Stupidity starts on 9th January. What gave you the idea for this course?

I love clown & improv and wanted to combine the two, so we can all be joyous and stupid together!

What excites you when it comes to this style of Improvisation?

This style of improv is so instinctual, you have to listen to your gut. I love watching people trusting their own ideas or instincts, it’s bloody marvellous.

What other artists or companies, improv or otherwise have inspired you to focus on the silly in your work?

Breaking and Entering with Maria Peters and Lauren Sheering is so fun and joyful to watch, I love that they look like they are always having a great time performing together and making each other laugh. Also, I grew up watching Steve Martin and Robin Williams and these two have always been a huge influence on me.

How do you feel online improv interacts with the freedom to be silly?

It’s defiantly harder to be silly online, with the lag and most people sitting down creates a challenge but it can also be a gift because there is more focus on the face and you can be the not just the performer but the director, editor and set designer.

What is your advice for someone wanting to be more stupid in their improv?

Do the fun thing, choose joy and silliness over plot.

A being from another planet who only understands tweet-length sentences is interested in taking your course – how will you describe it to them?

Join this stupid cult, you can be your weird alien self and have the most fun ?

Britt Pay teaches our Online Improv Course: The Fundamentals of Stupidity which starts on January 9th from 4 pm GMT.
