Improv Tips #133 – Set Improv Games For The Harold – Town Hall Meeting (2019)

Set Improv Games For The Harold – Town Hall Meeting
(The fourth in a six part series)

The Harold is considered by many to be the mother of all long form improv but teaching and learning the Harold can be tricky at times. We, as improvisers, spend most of our time (as we should) on the scenes that make up the Harold but often ignore or just look blankly at the group game parts of the Harold, but to have a great Harold, every part of the Harold needs to be great…even the group games. So, in this series of Improv Tips videos veteran teacher and improviser Paul Vaillancourt lays out his 6 favorite “set games” for the Harold. These 6 games are the ones that Paul has found, in his performance and teaching, to be the most impactful in terms of flexibility and utility as games themselves and, maybe more importantly, in terms of their ability to teach a score of underlying skills that players need to make up their own games or create games on the fly in a Harold (or any long form).

Whether you’re doing improv comedy, playing improv games, using improv in your acting classes or expressing yourself with some other kind of improvisation, Improv Tips is here to help you on your improv journey.
